Annual Meeting May 6, 2008

Our Annual Meeting was held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Cedar Vale school gymnasiumTrustees re-elected in Districts II and III were Dale Clubine, Moline, and Patrick Steward, Sedan, respectively.  Coral Ann Magnus, Cedar Vale, was elected in District 1 to replace Fred McAdam, who had served for three years.  Scholarship recipients for the 2008-2009 school year were announced, and are listed below.  Numerous electrical prizes, door prizes and bill credits were given. Special thanks go to Stuart Irby Company, Northeast Rural Services, Midwest Electric Transformers, and Kansas Electric Power Cooperative (KEPCo) for providing prizes for the drawing.

January, 2005, Ice Storm

We just finished making repairs to our system in December, 2004, from the ice storm that occurred January 30, 2002, when we were hit by another ice storm on January 4, 2005.  Costs of the 2002 ice storm totaled $7,380,215.  Costs of the recent ice storm repairs are at $5,421,999 as of December 31, 2007, and are estimated to total over $6,200,000.

All of us sincerely appreciate the assistance and encouragement our consumer members provided during each storm.  Your patience will continue to be appreciated as you experience outages related to repair of the system in the next few months.

On a side note, crews from Caney Valley Electric recently assisted Butler Rural Electric Cooperative in El Dorado, where over 100 poles went down in a wind storm April 7, 2008.  Our crews also assisted cooperatives in eastern Kansas to repair lines damaged when ice and snow storms hit there in December, 2007, and sent five men to help rebuild line following the devastating tornadoes that hit western Kansas the first of May, 2006.  We appreciate the willingness of these men to be away from their families for an extended period to help out our "cooperative families."

Don't use an ordinary extension cord for an appliance which uses a great deal of electricity like an iron or air conditioner.  Use a special heavy-duty cord for appliances that use more than 60 watts.
