Annual Meeting May 4, 2010

Our 2010 Annual Meeting was held Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the school gymnasium in Cedar Vale. Trustees re-elected to Position #1 for a 3-year term were Kenny Bates, Cedar Vale, and Carl Johnson Jr., Atlanta.  George Tolbert, Sedan, was elected to his first term in District 3. Scholarship recipients for the 2010-2011 school year were announced and numerous electrical prizes, door prizes and bill credits were given. Thanks to all who attended and represented your interest in the cooperative!

March 27, 2009, Ice Storm

Another ice storm damaged the western side of our system on March 27, 2009. Six substations were down following the storm due to Westar's transmission lines going down from ice accumulation. Caney Valley lost numerous poles and lines also.  Service to all residential meters was restored by March 31st.

All of us sincerely appreciate the assistance and encouragement our consumer members provide during each major storm.  Your patience will continue to be appreciated if you experience future prolonged outages due to circumstances beyond our control.

On a side note, we sent crews from Caney Valley Electric to assist Radiant Electric in Fredonia, where high winds &/or a tornado damaged lines in that area on May 8th. We recently assisted Carroll Electric in Jasper, Arkansas, following the ice storm of January 26 and 27, and Dixie Electric Membership Cooperative in Louisiana following the hurricane in early September 2008.  We also sent crews to assist Butler Rural Electric Cooperative in El Dorado, where over 100 poles went down in a wind storm April 7, 2008.  We helped cooperatives in eastern Kansas to repair lines damaged when ice and snow storms hit there in December, 2007, and sent five men to help rebuild line following the devastating tornadoes that hit western Kansas the first of May, 2006.  We appreciate the willingness of these men to be away from their families for an extended period to help out our "cooperative families."

Don't use an ordinary extension cord for an appliance which uses a great deal of electricity like an iron or air conditioner.  Use a special heavy-duty cord for appliances that use more than 60 watts.
