Public Safety DemonstrationsCaney Valley provides free electrical safety presentations and high voltage demonstrations to any groups or organizations in our service area. We also have a variety of safety brochures and coloring books dealing with inside and outside electrical equipment. We have provided demonstrations to Cub Scout groups, schools, firefighters, etc. We'd like to present a program to your group. If interested, please call us to set up an appointment. Using a generator If you have purchased a generator to use during extended power outages, PLEASE be sure it has a double-throw switch on it. If it does not, and you connect it in to your house wiring, it may severely injure a lineman further on down the line when they do get the service back on. If your generator does not have a double-throw switch, simply turning off the breakers below the meter will NOT break the connection to the cooperative's power lines. Contact our office to check the proper procedure in hooking up your generator. In the interest of the safety of our crews, please connect these generators correctly. If in doubt, feel free to contact our office at any time. Safety Check... Unplug an appliance and call an electrician if a receptacle faceplate feels hot or if there is sparking, smoke or odor coming from the outlet, plug or appliance. |
